- Candidates born in abroad, but their parents are from Indian Origin
- Candidates who is a citizen of India or is of Indian origin but is not living in India currently but rather living abroad.
- Children of India Citizens staying abroad for business or employment
- Candidates belong to India and staying or studying in abroad
- Children of State or Central Govt. employees studying in abroad on deputation period
- Candidate must be living abroad as an NRI for five years to be considered an NRI. That means you must have cleared your 10th and 12th examination from that country
Eligibility Criteria for NRI Quota MBBS Admission
If you are an NRI candidate and seeking MBBS Admission under NRI Quota seats in Karnataka, then you must meet below mentioned eligibility requirements.
- You should have a valid passport.
- You should have passed 10+2 or Std. 12 or equivalent exam with Physics, Chemistry and Biology with minimum 50% marks in aggregate.
- You must meet the minimum age of 17 years and maximum 25 years on 31st December of admission year.
- You must appear and qualify NEET-UG entrance exam conducted by the NTA New Delhi
Note: If you are an Indian candidate and seeking MBBS Direct Admission through NRI Quota seats in Karnataka, in that case you need produce supportive documents of you and your financial sponsor (NRI Sponsor) such as Father, Mother, Brother. Sister, Uncle, Aunt, etc.

As per the recent news (source: The Hindu), the Medical Education Department of Karnataka is very much keen to reserve 15% seats for NRIs (Non-Indian Residents) in government medical colleges from 2026-27 academic year, with a proposed fee of 25 Lakhs per annum.

Process for Private Medical Colleges under RGUHS
MBBS Admission under NRI Quota seats in Karnataka for medical colleges affiliated with RGUHS (Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences) Bengaluru done through the counselling conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA).
In these private medical colleges of Karnataka, 15% seats are reserved for NRI candidates, which is also known as N-Quota seat where the fee is much higher than the normal (P-Quota) fee.
To avail NRI Quota or N-Quota seat into those private medical colleges in Karnataka, willing candidates who are NRIs or wanted to take the benefit of NRI Sponsorship must have qualified NEET entrance exam and applied for the counselling as well no matter how much marks they have secured in the NEET, with applying for counselling admission couldn’t be possible by any means.
Process for Private Medical Colleges under Deemed Universities
Some of the private medical colleges in Karnataka are affiliated with private universities, those universities are approved by the UGC (University Grant Commission) New Delhi as well as NMC (National Medical Committee) New Delhi.
MBBS Admission to these private medical colleges (deemed medical universities) is done through the counselling conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) of India.
These Medical Colleges have 85% seats under regular quota or management quota and remaining 15% seats under NRI quota, where the course fee is more than the regular quota fee (approximately 3 to 5 times).
To avail NRI Quota seat into those private medical colleges under deemed universities in Karnataka, willing candidates who are NRIs or wanted to take the benefit of NRI Sponsorship must have qualified NEET entrance exam and applied for the counselling as well no matter how much marks they have secured in the NEET, with applying for counselling admission couldn’t be possible by any means.
The NRI Quota also includes People of Indian origin (POI) and Overseas Indian Citizens (OCI). However, NRI Quota Student still need to qualify the NEET UG Exam for MBBS admission in India.
