MBBS Admission Process in Karnataka

In order to get admitted for MBBS Admission in Karnataka, you have to apply for Karnataka NEET Counselling which is conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) after obtaining the NEET-UG Results.

Karnataka Examination Authority conducts counselling for all Govt. as well as Private Medical Colleges in Karnataka. A few Deemed Universities participate in this counseling with Govt. Quota only.

Govt. Quota or G Quota

This quota consists of 85% seats of the total number of seats in all Govt. Medical Colleges after allotting 15% All India Quota (AIQ) Seats in all Govt. Medical Colleges and 40% (Non-Minority) + 25% (Minority) seats in all Private Medical Colleges of Karnataka.

All India Quota (AIQ) Counselling for Govt. Medical Colleges in Karnataka as well as other states of India will be conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).

And 85% State Quota Counselling for all Govt. Medical Colleges in Karnataka, 40% seats of Private Medical Colleges (Non-Minority) and 25% seats of Private Medical Colleges (Minority) will be conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA).

Note: It is not possible to admit students directly to all Govt. Medical Colleges in Karnataka. The admission process will be purely based on merit. No outside students can get admission into all Govt. Medical Colleges in Karnataka.

Private Quota or P Quota

Private Quota or P Quota is only available in private medical colleges available in Karnataka, under this quota 55% seats of Minority Private Medical Colleges and 40% seats of Non-Minority Private Medical Colleges are available for counselling.

Applications for MBBS admission into Private Medical Colleges of Karnataka through Karnataka NEET Counselling are open to all students across India, organized by Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA).

Such seats are also referred to as open seats, and Karnataka state encourages applications from all meritorious students across India in counseling.

The fee for these seats is the lowest among all other private medical colleges across India. Hence, students who have been unable to secure government seats because of their narrow margins in scores have an excellent chance of securing one in this type of seat.

The level of competition for these seats is higher because of their low fees as well as the quality of education provided by such medical institutions. (The fee for the “P” category seats is lower than any deemed university across India, and hence, students before selecting such universities choose these colleges in Karnataka).

NRI Quota or N Quota

In this Quota, 15% of the total number of seats in all the private medical colleges of Karnataka will be reserved for students from the NRI Category.

It may not be mandatory that you should be an NRI in order to pursue your MBBS in the NRI Category. There are some guidelines and formalities which have to be adhered to. Such guidelines will be made clear to you by the respective counseling body’s websites such as KEA.
